The Common Types of Valves Every Gas and Oil Engineer Should Know About

Plug Valve

The next type of valve in gas and oil industry that should be known is plug valve. Generally, the use of plug valve is to fully open and close. The main parts of plug valve are similar to gate valve or globe valve. Those are body, packing bolt, stem, plug, and seal. Seal has a function to packing. Packing bolt is similar to gland. Plug is used to control the flow of plug valve. Plug has a hole for passing the oil and gas flow. When the handle is turned to open position, the plug will rotate automatically to the seat and the hole. But, as the handle is turned on on the close position, the plug will rotate to seat and no hole spaces to hold on the flow. It makes the flow stop.

Globe Valve

One of the last common valve types for oil and gas engineers is globe valve. It is a kind of valve designed to manage the scale of regulate or throttling process. Basically, the main parts of globe valve are same as gate valve consisting of body, disc, steam, bonnet, gland, packing, and seat. The flow of fluid in globe valve will have obstacle so that it makes pressure drop bigger than gate valve. The first flow will get seat and turn on. It passes and gets all parts of disc.
